Reader Question

One of our readers left a comment but asked be remain anonymous. Since this is one of my most asked questions, I thought I would go ahead and put her question in a post:
I just passed my CC class and am waiting for the bureaucratic red tape so I can get my certificate and apply for my permit. In the meantime, I am researching deep carry options for my curvaceous frame. I am a very affectionate person and often hug or get hugged by people and children. I thought maybe an ankle holster would be less alarming for this circumstance then a upper body carry. I have reviewed a few of your suggestions, and am searching the web for options. I would prefer an upper body carry as I think that would be faster should the situation, God forbid, ever arise. I think I would collect too much sweat for a chest or side carry.... do you have any suggestions on how you overcame this in the beginning years of your CC? Thank you for any help or advice you can give me.

Being a bigger girl, I know first hand that sometimes our options for concealed carry are less than our thinner sisters. I have found the MOST comfortable and hug friendly holster is the Marilyn by Looper Law, the Company that makes the Flashbang.

Living in the Texas Panhandle during 120 degree summers, the sweat issue sometimes concerned me as well. Sitting in church one hot Sunday afternoon wearing the Flashbang, I noticed some sweat dripping from under the holster location. I found the answer to that on those super hot days was to wear a light cami between the bra and my body or simply tuck a paper towel in between the two. It never really was an issue unless it was over 100 degrees outside, though.

I also sometimes would opt for the Sophia holster by the same company. This belt holster allows me to wear a cute tank with a light breezy vest or cover shirt without having a holster against my skin. Practice side hugs with your spouse, immediate family and you will quickly learn how to give great hugs avoiding accidental "exposure".

If all else fails, there are always purse holsters, although I would always recommend carrying on your body instead of in a purse ESPECIALLY since you have and are around children. It is my personal opinion that body carry is much safer than purse carry, since you don't always have your purse in your hands, leaving your firearm out of reach and sometimes within reach of tiny or strange hands.

  1. Good Morning, here is an update from "Anonymous". I got my certificate, but haven't made my appointment with the sheriff as I have been working many hours. I have already tried on an ankle holster and really like it. Have started changing my wardrobe to accommodate the ankle holster concept. My husband wants me to have 3 ways to carry, so he sent me this video. I did not get to finish watching all of it, but I will later. Are you familiar with the mic holster from glock and if after watching the video can you let me know your reviews - pros and cons - if it's something women can utilize easily as well?

Thank you so much for any time you take with this idea.

    1. Sweet friend,
I have seen information on the Mic Holster, but have not had the opportunity to try one. I would love your feedback if you try it.

  2. Hey Lady! so I found out that the Mic holster is similar to the flashbang! I had a chance to check out the flashbang, and bless the poor guy who of course couldn't tell me whether it would work for me or not.
LOL! Hubby and I realized that the flashbang or marilyn just would not work for me. The ankle holster is a great carry option for me though.
While on our way to the beach we found a wonderful gun store and hallelujah there was a sweet young lady behind the counter who quickly took my situation in hand. She told me she uses the flashbang or a iwb nearly every day at work there. When we realized that a flashbang and it's variations would not work for my curves she found me a bellyband option instead. My worst worries were for naught. The belly band was a great option for me along with the ankle holster. Hubby suggested that any purse could also be converted to a carry option with some industrial strength velcro for my 3rd option. So now I have confidence that I can deep carry when my permit arrives! Yeehaw, can you tell I am excited? In the meantime, he bought me a slimline taser since I am not supposed to carry at work.
Thanks for all your help and I have bookmarked you in my favorites so I can keep up with all the trailblazing that you are doing for us women warriors.
    Thank you soo MUCH!

  4. Ok, it's your faithful anonymous fan again. Congrats on the good news for the kidney transplant!!! Since I don't know how to email you, I hope you don't mind me using this way to send you a private message.
Been going through a stressful busy time lately and when I do that my dreams are very jumbled, vivid, and weird. My brain is trying to organize everything into something it can control so between news shows, politics, kids, and applying for my gun permit and a myriad of other things I had a dream this morning that I just wanted to share a little hilarious moment from with you.
I was on my Harley (which I don't have one of course) and I rode up to my husband inside a huge college/town council meeting. He is sitting in a chair and I am on my Harley (that's right yup I am weird), and he leans over and says to me- "You need to speak up and defend your rights." So atop my Harley I proclaim--
"I stand for the right to ride my Harley, and to carry my gun, and to be the woman that God and the Bible intends for me to be!" LOLOL.... isn't that so awesome? Anyway, all day I have been saying to myself.. I stand for the right to ride my Harley and carry my gun....!!! So, does this mean I need to look into riding Harleys????
I just had to share this with someone who might understand .. LOL now you know just how quirky I am.
