Texas is on Fire

With at least 51 days at or above the century mark, this has been the hottest summer on record in Texas history since at least 1895, when the temperatures began being recorded. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, more than 81% of Texas is under "Exceptional Drought Conditions". All this combined has led to some of the most intense wildfires on record.

Hundrends of thousands of people have been evacuated. Thousands of acres and homes lost, as well as farm land, livestock, and even lives.

Bastrop, Texas has been burning all weekend. Friends in Austin have been evacuated and people all over our great state are being misplaced, not knowing if they will have a home to go home to. This brings on a very important question: Are you prepared if you had to leave your home right now? THIS will be the topic covered in our Girl's Night Out clinic on October 13th. This will be a co-ed class and will be offered for a minimal fee.

That is not why I am writing today, though. I am writing today because our neighbors need our help. Our statesmen are hurting and needing and we can help them. They are needing basic survival items for the folks misplaced by the fires: blankets, non-perishable food items, clothes, water and pet food.

If you have items or money you would like to donate, please take them to your local Red Cross or contact me at ThatTexasLady@gmail.com to join our effort in putting together care packages to send to the victims. At the very least, please pray? Pray for those affected and for the first responders putting themselves in harm's way to protect their fellow man.

  1. Along the lines of emergency preparedness, I am looking for a advanced first aid "field medic" or "tactical aid" type class. I am not currently a EMT so it would have to be for a non- nurse , non-emt person. If anyone knows of a class in the TX area or within few hours of DFW please let me know!
